In early 2022, NBC greenlit a reboot of Password with Jimmy Fallon, current host of The Tonight Show (more specifically The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon). For the longest time, he had the game on his show.[1][2][3]
This version hosted by Keke Palmer uses the classic format but with a reduced scoring format. This time the top clue value is six points and again, each new clue reduces the value by one. If the giver gives away the Password at anytime, it ends the word and gives the opposing team two points. 15 points are now needed to win the game and it has brought back the best two out of three format used in the 70s revival. After the first game, the contestants change celebrity partners for the second game.
When there's a 1-1 tie, a tiebreaker is played under the Password Puzzle format from the 70s & 80s but without the aid of celebrity partners and it is played on the buzzers. Plus the contestants look at the board on an offstage TV monitor by the audience, while the audience looks at the same board behind Keke. Keke will give each of the five Password clues one at a time. The first player to buzz-in will get first shot at the puzzle. An incorrect solve gives the opponent a chance to see the remaining clues and make a free guess. The first player to solve the puzzle wins the match.
On December 18, 2023, NBC aired a special holiday edition of Password.
Season Two Changes[]
- The second game has all the Passwords fit under a specific category.
- The clue giver at the start of each Password can decide to "Shoot the Moon" and try to get the partner to say the Password in one clue for two bonus points for a total of eight.
- In the season two tiebreakers, Keke gives the clues herself, and the Password is contained in a secret envelope. The first player to buzz-in will be the only one to answer. A correct answer wins the match, but an incorrect answer gives the match to his/her opponent.
